One Week Down

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Lots of things have been going on here in Ohio over the past week.

I have been to Wright State a few times. I got my class schedule. It could be better. I have at least one class every day. I had been hoping not to have to drive all the way over there every day. I toured the labs. I have my own desk and PC in one of them.

I’ve been at Mike’s place almost every night working on computer stuff and hanging out. I have been trying to get Windows 2000 installed on my old Dell laptop. For some reason it locks up when it tries to detect hardware devices. It’s strange since the computer came with Windows 2000. I did get Windows XP to install but for speed reasons, since it is an older computer, I want Windows 2000 on it. I have been trying to slipstream Windows 2000 with the latest updates to see if that works. I have been having some technical problems with that approach but I may still get it figured out.

Saturday night I was very bored until Robyn messaged me. We met up with her friend and went out on the town. It was good times. On Sunday night Roger and I went to see Deuce Bigalow 2. Roger laughed the entire way through the movie. It was hillarious. We particularly enjoyed the names of sexual acts they came up with. When I wasn’t out being social, I was cleaning here at the house.

I have a couple of meetings at school this week and I still have a lot of organizing to do around the house.

Cookout

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

As many of you know, I had a cookout last night here at my place. It went pretty darn well. We had between 10 and 15 people here and we had burgers and watched Da Ali G Show. There were a couple no-shows (and they have been noted mentally) but overall the crowd was pretty good.

This morning we woke up at 6AM (!!!!) and went climbing out near Superior. We were out there for a few hours and it was awesome. It was my first time climbing out in the wild after several years of climbing in gyms. It is much different and very interesting. There is such an abundance of possible holds you have trouble choosing which one is going to be a good one. Also the good holds all blend in with the bad. It isn’t like in the gym where they have tape under then to tell you which ones to use. Also I was very impressed with how well my La Sportivas stuck to the rocks. They stuck much better than I was used to.

I haven’t mentioned this at all on here – As many of you know, I am moving to Ohio tomorrow and I will be starting grad school at Wright State University in 2 weeks. I will be working on my M.S.E. in Human Factors Engineering. I plan to live at home to cut costs and I will be doing research in order to get free tuition. It’s a pretty good deal but I’m a bit nervous about it seeing how I’ve never been to grad school before.
